Meiko did not know how to weave a star-net. She only knew how to fold pages and count promises. But Askara's hands guided hers as if pulling thread through space. Under their touch the silver threads hummed. Meiko whispered one vow after another—small things at first, like tying the blue ribbon on a child's hair, returning a borrowed bowl, visiting a distant aunt. Each promise glowed and rose from the page like dust in sunlight and tangled into the net. As the net filled, the stars in the Collector's sphere shivered.
