If you are digitizing rare vinyl or master tapes using Toast’s audio capture feature, Extra Quality is essential. It minimizes digital artifacts during the analog-to-digital conversion. The larger file size is a worthwhile trade-off for preservation.

If you are burning a standard Audio CD (Red Book standard), Toast does not re-encode the audio. It writes the raw PCM data directly to the disc. In this case, the “Extra Quality” setting is irrelevant—it only applies to compressed formats like MP3 or AAC.

Following this guide, Toast Titanium will produce burns that are visually indistinguishable from source and more durable than default “fast” burns. For archival projects, consider burning two copies on different brand media.
